Mercedes presented a tubodiesel more performant than their rival, BMW.
With the anniversary of 150 years from the birth of Rudolf Diesel,
those from Mercedes presented a new turbodiesel engine, directly endorsing
their rival, BMW. Why so directly ? Simple : they make part from the
same segment, of engines of 2 liters and has the same maximum power.
One year ago, those from BMW announced a new turbodiesel propeller with
2 liters cylinder, 2 turbocompressors and 204HP. It means 102HP/liter,
one performance for some of us.
But Mercedes announced now the addition of a new turbodiesel in their
own line. This one has 2,1liters, 204HP, and with the help of 2
turbines of supercharger, the maximum couple is 500Nm, with 100Nm more than
which BMW gives.
Medium consumption announced for this engine is 5,4liters/100km in case
it’s installed on C-Klasse (the propeller will make part from the
motors offer for more Mercedes models).
The acceleration 0-100km/h takes, like the C-Klasse, in 7,7seconds.
Engine already respects Euro5 precepts, unadopted yet and it will be
offered in 3 levels of power : 200CDI (136HP and 330Nm), 220CDI (170HP and
400Nm) amd 250CDI (204Hp and 500Nm).
The Germans say the new CDI has been under an intense test program to
assure it a good viability. The development was 4 years long and after
they begun the tests. The new CDI was pushed to limits for 100.000 hours,
the equal of 1.000.000 km of driving in normal conditions.
